There once was a little girl who loved all animals. She was reared on an almond orchard in rural Northern California, and, to follow her passion of working with livestock, she raised market lambs in 4-H. When the time came for that little girl to head off for a higher education, she majored in Agriculture/Animal Science at CSU Chico. With a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in tow, she headed to the University of Minnesota to learn more about food animal production and earn her Master’s Degree in Animal Science with a Minor in Sustainable Agriculture. In the journey of her life, that small town girl has felt the heat of the Australian outback during an internship on a cattle ranch ‘down under’; caught the trains throughout Europe on a summer backpacking expedition; taught every subject but Swahili to orphaned children living in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya; survived the blizzards of Minnesota while working as a research assistant on the UMN’s organic dairy; and explored the rain forests on an adventure-filled trip in Costa Rica. All were incredibly blessed and rewarding experiences, but the little girl’s heart, inside of the now young lady, was still yearning for the farm life and teaching position she always wanted.
