Joseph Persico
Summary: I have been teaching at Hanna Boys Center since 2014. I teach Spanish 1 and 2 and Spanish for Spanish speakers. My goal for students who have never studied a foreign language before is to get them to feel that the language they are hearing and speaking is slowly becoming second nature to them. I do comprehensible input (i.e. movie talks, story-asking, etc.) with year 1 and year 2 learners. In my Spanish for Spanish Speakers course, we study Hispanic cultures and contemporary issues that affect my students' lives as well as countries where Spanish is the official language. In Argentina, I recently published Persico's Lexical Companion to Argentine Spanish: Diccionario bilingüe de regionalismos porteños. It is the most exhaustive bilingual dictionary ever published for a single dialect of Spanish. Before returning to the U.S. in 2013, I taught English as a Foreign Language for 13 years in Argentina, and 3 years in Mexico. Prior to that, I finished my Bachelor's degree in Spain, where I studied for one year. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Spanish, a certificate to Teach English as a Second Language, and a single subject teaching credential (Spanish)—all at Sonoma State University.
